Yesterday was a miserable day. Izzy woke up from her afternoon
nap around 3:00 and her face had swollen so much her right eye
could not open. She was in misery. She tried to eat and then her
belly swelled up too. She couldn't sit up. She didn't want to play
and all she did was cried. The docs decided IV lasix was necessary
stat. Well, Izzy's IV fell out the day before, so after a two hour
ordeal, five pokes, and one exhausted baby (not to mention an
emotionally spent mommy), Izzy had a new line in her neck. She peed
very quickly with the IV lasix. She is getting it 3 times a day now
and the swelling is lessening. Not great, but less.
After all of that, Izzy slept fairly well through the night. She was awoken by respiratory when they came to do her treatment. The mucus busting drug contains sulfur and is very stinky. It was a good thing because we changed her diaper at that time and found all of her bedding was soaked through. Obviously, the lasix was working. She went right back to sleep and didn't wake again to 6:00 a.m. when she wanted to eat. She took 5 ounces and 3/4 of a jar of bananas!!!!
I think she is doing better now. The docs haven't rounded yet, but I think they will be slightly happier with her. Her belly isn't as hard.
