Dale has been with McKenzie all day and it does not sound like
she is doing any better, but worse. They are no closer to finding a
cause for her breathing problems, but are concentrating on fixing
the symptoms. She has been alternating two types of breathing
treatments---albuteral and another kind. The albuteral did not
really work, but they didn't want to do the other one because it
increases the heart rate. They ended up using that one as well
because they needed something to open her airways. It worked and
she was happy until they went to put in an IV. After several
unsucessful attempts, they tried to place one in her head. And
while that IV is in, it is my understanding that it is not in
properly, so they will probably have to try again or put in a more
stable line. All of that fighting against the needles and fighting
against the nurses holding her down has worn McKenzie out
completly. Unfortunately, she is still not resting because she is
working so hard to breathe. If they can't get her under control,
she may need to be intubated (placed on a ventilator). Because of
the serious turn this is taking, she is being transferred to the
ICU.
