It is was around 8:00 this morning, Izzy was just waking up from
her post-breakfast nap and I was on the phone with Dale. Izzy was
trying to get to me and stood up on her own for the first time. It
was wonderful and amazing. She has been trying and trying, but
never been able to pull to stand on her own. It was very nice to
see. She kept doing it through out the day. The only problem was
that all of the cords got tangled up much more quickly than
normal.
Milestone number 2 was being off of the oxygen for a greater length of time today. If she can keep that up for 12 hours, she gets to go home. Right now, she is at 0.125 liters. We'll see how that works as she sleeps. Her left lung still has a black patch, but they are not too concerned about it at this point. We just need to continue chest percussions (as if we have stopped since the day of her surgery). The only other thing connecting her to the hospital is the IV and they are preparing to switch her to oral antibiotics soon. With that switch, there will be no need for the IV, since she is eating very, very well.
Overall, it was a good day. Izzy played hard, got to take another wagon ride, we read lots of books over and over again, and she smiled and talked a ton. She still is stir crazy, but that happens. Life will return to normal soon (WE HOPE).
