Well, we've had to go back to the last formula (regular
Nutramigen) and while it worked better than what she had been on,
with one feeding, she has gone backward. Luckily, the other can the
doctor gave us is at day care and my Aunt Liz found a store that
could get some in stock by tomorrow morning, so we will have more
formula at our house by tomorrow evening.
Dale and I would like to thank everyone who has offered suggestions and support while we figure out how to get McKenzie to eat. After having a son who has eaten very well since day 1, this has been one of the bigger shocks about McKenzie.
Hopefully, she will really start to gain weight again by the end of this week so that when she gets admitted to the hospital for her next surgery on July 10, she will not be smaller than the last time she saw her surgeon. If she is, that surgery may need to be postponed. The longer we wait on that, the more chance it is not fixed before her next heart surgery. Her thoracic surgeon wanted that surgery complete ASAP. We were told he actually was bugging the general surgeon about getting it done quickly. Luckily, the main problems associated with it have minimized considerably since she was taken off breast milk and put on formula. That was the only good thing that has come from the switch so far!
