McKenzie is out of surgery. It appears to have gone well. We are waiting for her to get settled into the PICU before Dale and I can see her. We did get a quick glimpse as she left the OR to go upstairs, but not enough to satisfy us yet.

The doctors confirmed that she did not have a ductus. The vast majority of babies have a ductus that helps circulate the blood while they are in utero. It closes within the first 48 hours after birth. Normally, for babies with tetrology of fallot, they provide a medicine to keep that ductus open since it is the only way the blood flows to their lungs. McKenzie never had one, but the collateral blood vessels she created kept the blood flowing, so she truly is a miracle baby. She has created her own way to keep the blood flowing when all of the normal mechanisms failed.

We can't wait to see her, even though we know she will not look like the same baby we left this morning since she will still be under the anesthesia. Thankfully, she has made it this far and has proven to be a real champion.

Congrats to All of You
Thanks for the update on your little miracle baby. So glad to hear that things are going well. Unfortunately, it sounds so unreal and hard to understand. Just glad the word is good. We'll keep you in our prayers and we look forward to meeting little McKenzie!!
