| Waiting for her next move---to the kitchen to get the letters off the fridge or shut the front door. May 20, 2009. |
Izzy and I just got back from her cardiologist's office. Her sats were in the upper 90s!!!!!! She hasn't seen numbers that high since she was taken off the oxygen. Her lungs sounded clear and she was rambunctious as ever. Dr. Cutler was very pleased with her. Since we had our little ER escapade last week, Dr. Cutler is keeping Izzy on the extra diruectics until Monday. On Monday, we d/c the third dose of lasix (she'll still be on lasix twice a day and the aldactone, but we've been giving her lasix since she was 1 week old, so that is no biggie). Tuesday we see the immunologist/pulmonologist and he can listen to her without the extra lasix and Dr. Cutler will stop by to get a quick look and listen. If all goes well, we should be off the third dose of lasix for good at that point. If not, we have one week before I go back to work to get her heart and lungs straightened out. It sure would be nice to cut down on the amounts of time we have to give Izzy meds. Right now, she is on 9 meds at 5 different times a day.
After my shock regarding the right pulmonary artery news at the last appointment, I came prepared with many questions. Dr. Cutler explained that the likely cause of the kinking of the PA (pinching) was that something happened to the patch they used for the VSD, such as shrinking after it was placed. She said many things can happen to the patch after placement and any of those things could cause the kinking in the PA. Since it was a kink and not a shrinking of the entire PA, in the cath lab they could balloon the kink and place a stent to keep it open if necessary (like they do for adults with blockage). The plan now is to get Izzy healthy and healed and wait since the kink is not causing any noticeable problems at this point in time. In several months, they will probably do another perfusion study and go from there. It is likely that McKenzie will need the cath procedure.
Izzy sounds like she is waking from her morning snooze, so I will leave you with that. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend. We are hoping to have fun and hoping my sister and her family make the trek from Rochester!
Mel
PS
Izzy is nicely gaining weight too! She now weighs 17 pounds 11.8 ounces.

Mel,
Sounds like things are looking up! Hopefully, Hazel and I will be able to pick a time to look in on Izzy in the next week or so.

Great report! Any reduction in meds
— while still things the same, health wise — is a good thing. Hope that extra
fluid stays away for good!
