About half of the three weeks since I've last posted have been
very good for Izzy. Most importantly, Izzy started FIRST
GRADE!!!!!
Phin started third grade as well. School has gone very well for the kids. Izzy absolutely loves first grade--even her homework. She enjoys learning the math and reading all of the time. She fantastic with her reading.
Izzy did have some pain during the first week of school and was using the morphine. We did have a day where almost had to come home because of the pain. Thankfully, we upped the dosage and that seemed to help. Izzy had a great week and a half without pain and eating fairly well for an Izzy. She was just a kid. It is hard to explain how nice it is to see her just be a kid.
One of our highlights from the last three weeks was Izzy's Ice
Cream Social! Last weekend, we held the ice cream social at our
house--raising over $1000 for the Congenital Heart Walk. It was a
fantastic day and Izzy had so much fun being the star of the day.
Thank you so much to everyone who joined us or participating in
Izzy's Ice Cream Challenge this summer. We have raised over $3000
for Team Izzy, mostly by eating ice cream! We will be doing this
again next year and hope to make it bigger and better.

Izzy's run as typical kid pretty much ended on Friday. Granted
she had her weekly blood draw on Tuesday, then Thursday she had to
see the doctor for a double ear infection. Unfortunately, the ear
that is the worst didn't hurt her. Apparently, when you have a
giant hole in your ear drum, you don't know about infections
because the pressure can't build.
Friday, Izzy woke in pain again and didn't think she could go to school. Thankfully, morphine did help and she was able to go to school. She did need additional doses and didn't eat anything yesterday. This morning, she woke up in even more pain.
Despite several doses of morphine, Izzy remains in pain. Unfortunately, she hasn't been able to keep any of the pain meds down. She hates the morphine so much. She says it is her yuckiest medicine. She has eaten nothing today and is on the verge of dehydration, but her pain has dissipated a little. She is watching "Frozen" now.
We are hopeful Izzy will begin to come back after some more rest. I would really like to get her eating something. As always, we appreciate everyone thinking of our girl.
