Izzy had her ear surgery this morning. It was not much of a
procedure. The doctor basically put a latex plug that looks like a
bobbin in Izzy's left ear. It "patched" the giant hole she had
there and will, hopefully, allow the ear drum to finally heal. The
good thing about this patch/plug is that, should Izzy get an
infection, the plug will simply be pushed out rather than causing
her ear drum to explode. The left ear looked good, but the tube had
fallen out, so the doc put in a new tube (her 4th).
Izzy was very good going into the procedure and didn't cry when she left me. She did say that she cried when they put the gas mask on her face :( And after the procedure, she was crying bloody murder for me. Needless to say, the nurses in recovery rushed to get me! Nobody believed me beforehand that Izzy always get nauseated following anesthesia, even only for a very short time, so they didn't pre-med her before waking up. They ended up giving her zofran immediately after she woke though! It is never fun to have the opportunity to say "I told you so" when your baby is the one getting the bum end of the deal.
After Izzy's discharge, we headed to the Breakfast Club and ate a late, yet fabulous gluten free breakfast. Izzy ate 3/4 of a breakfast enchilada and a chocolate covered strawberry! She may break the 14KG (30 lbs) mark one day yet!
Izzy says that she can already hear better! I hope that is true. It would be so great if this helped her. She'd be able to better interact with her friends and classmates and with us.
